ESG 101: A Simple Explanation
ESG – what is it?
Environmental factors include the company’s contribution to protecting the planet through greenhouse gas emissions. It considers a company’s utilization of natural resources and the effect of their operations on the environment, both in their direct operations and across their supply chains.
Social factors include human rights, ensuring labor standards are met with workplace safety, and ensuring their supply chain does not engage in illegal child labor.
Lastly, Governance creates a culture that goes to the heart of sustainability. It looks at social, environmental, and economic impacts of the decisions they make. Governance through a sustainability lens often changes an organization’s approach.
